What Does Junior Golf Coaching Include?

Every junior golfer develops at a different pace. I build each coaching plan around the player's current ability, physical development, competitive experience, and college golf ambitions.

Swing & Movement Development

Improve swing mechanics, ball striking, and movement efficiency through video analysis, TrackMan data, force plate technology, and golf-specific movement assessments.

Structured Practice Plans

Follow a personalized practice schedule designed to build consistency, challenge existing skills, and turn practice improvements into better tournament performance.

Short Game & Scoring Skills

Develop putting, wedge play, course management, and scoring strategies that help junior golfers perform more consistently during competitive rounds.

Mental Game & Tournament Preparation

Build confidence, focus, and effective pre-shot routines while preparing for the demands of high school and junior golf tournaments.

Performance Tracking

Track scoring patterns, technical improvements, and competitive progress to identify strengths, address weaknesses, and adjust development goals.

College Golf Recruiting Guidance

Developing the skills to play college golf is only part of the process. Junior golfers and their families also need to understand how to prepare for collegiate opportunities.

I help players and parents navigate important aspects of college golf preparation.

Tournament Planning

Identify appropriate events and progressively build competitive experience against stronger fields.

College Coach Communication

Understand how and when to communicate with college golf programs throughout the recruiting process.

College Program Selection

Explore programs that align with the golfer's competitive ability, academic interests, and long-term goals.

Recruiting Timeline Guidance

Understand the important stages of college golf preparation and how recruiting expectations can vary between programs and NCAA divisions.

While no coach can guarantee recruitment or scholarships, my goal is to help each player develop their game and approach the recruiting process with greater confidence and preparation.

Junior Golf Success Stories

Real player development comes from consistent coaching, dedicated practice, and a plan that evolves with the athlete.

Rylee – From Scores Around 105 to College Golf

Rylee dreamed of playing collegiate golf but initially recorded scores around 105. After three months of consistent training without immediate scoring improvements, she stayed committed to the plan.

During the fourth month, her scores dropped into the mid-80s. By her senior year, she was regularly shooting in the high 30s and low 40s during high school matches.

She went on to be recruited by St. Vincent College, recorded a personal-best tournament round of 77, and received Athlete of the Week recognition in back-to-back weeks.

Eli – 40 More Yards and a Varsity Starting Position

Eli wanted to make his high school varsity team as a freshman but struggled with inconsistent scoring and limited distance.

Following a swing and movement assessment, we developed a focused plan that improved his driver angle of attack from approximately -6.5 degrees to +3 degrees.

Within six weeks, he gained 40 yards off the tee. He went on to make varsity, played as his team's No. 1 golfer for the majority of the season, qualified for the WPIAL tournament, and posted ten consecutive tournament scores between 73 and 77.

Gabby & Olivia – 2026 Conference Champions

Two female high school golfers coached by Michael achieved conference championship victories, with Gabby recording a winning score of 72 and Olivia winning with a 75.

Results are individual examples and do not guarantee similar outcomes for every golfer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is private junior golf coaching different from group golf lessons in Pittsburgh?

Group lessons generally provide shared instruction, while MLaB Golf focuses on individualized development for juniors pursuing competitive and collegiate golf. Coaching includes personalized practice plans, tournament preparation, performance tracking, and recruiting guidance.

Does my child need to be an advanced golfer to apply?

No. There is no fixed minimum scoring requirement. Junior golfers should have a serious interest in collegiate golf and be willing to follow a structured practice schedule. Applications are evaluated based on the player's goals, current development, and commitment.

When should my child start preparing for college golf?

Preparation can begin when a junior is ready for structured training. Starting early provides more time to improve competitive scores, gain tournament experience, and explore potential college programs. Recruiting timelines vary by NCAA division and individual institution.

What score does a junior golfer need to play college golf?

There is no universal scoring requirement. Expectations vary by college, division, and program. I help players identify appropriate scoring goals and develop a training plan aligned with their collegiate ambitions.

Do you help junior golfers with college recruiting?

Yes. I provide guidance on tournament planning, communicating with college coaches, identifying suitable programs, and understanding recruiting timelines. Recruitment decisions and scholarship opportunities are ultimately determined by individual colleges.

Can junior golfers outside Pittsburgh apply for coaching?

Yes. Dedicated junior golfers and families from outside Pittsburgh can apply for in-person coaching. Depending on availability and fit, weekend training opportunities may be considered.
